You may bring this by to the Business Tax Office located at 200 North Castle Heights Avenue (First Floor) or mail it in to the Business Tax Office (200 N Castle Heights Ave., ATTN: Business Tax Office, Lebanon, TN, 37087). Transient Vendor Permits are $50 for 14 consecutive days.
A transient vendor is any person who brings onto temporary premises stocks of merchandise and offers to sell said merchandise or a service to the public. Transient Vendor does not include any person selling goods by sample, brochure, or sales catalog who does not remain at one location.
To apply for a Transient Vendor Permit you are required to have a copy (front & back) of your driver’s license, owner information (name, address, and social security number), vehicle information (make, model, description, and license tag), information the applicant is representing (complete name & address), brief description of the business and goods to be sold, and the last 3 cities or towns that the applicant recently conducted business.
Peddler Permits are $50 for 5 days.
A peddler is any person, firm or corporation, either a resident or a nonresident of the city, who has no permanent regular place of business and who goes from dwelling to dwelling, business to business, place to place, or from street to street, carrying or transporting goods, sale of goods, wares or merchandise and offering exposing the same for sale.
To apply for a Peddlers Permit you are required to have a copy (front & back) of your driver’s license, owner information (name, address, phone number, and social security number), vehicle information (make, model, description, license tag, and state), and the last 3 cities or towns that the applicant recently conducted business.
Solicitor Permits are $50 for 5 days.
A solicitor is any person, firm, or corporation who goes from dwelling to dwelling, business to business, place to place, or from street to street, taking or attempting to take orders for any goods, wares, or merchandise, or personal property of any nature whatever future delivery, except that the term shall not include solicitors for charitable and religious purposes. (18-5628, 9-201).
Solicitor for charitable or religious purposes is any persons, firm, or corporation organization who or which solicits contributions from the public, either on the streets of the city or from door to door, business to business, place to place, or from street to street for any charitable or religious organization and who does not sell or offer to sell any single item at cost to the purchaser in excess of ten dollars ($10). (18-5628, 9-201)
To qualify as a “charitable” or “religious” organization you must meet one the following:
- Has a current exemption certificate from the Internal Revenue Service issued under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code of 1954, as amended.
- Member of United Way, Community Chest, or similar “umbrella” organization for charitable or religious organizations
- Has been in continued existence as charitable or religious organization in Wilson County for 2 years prior to the date of its application for registration. (18-5628, 9-201)
To apply for a Solicitor Permit you are required to have a copy of your driver’s license (front and back), owner information (name, address, phone number, and social security number), vehicle information (make, model, description, license tag & state), and the last 3 cities or towns that the applicant recently conducted business.
Solicitors are prohibited from knocking on the doors of any address that is located in the City’s Do Not Solicit Registry. A current list of the Registry is available when you apply for a permit to solicit in the city.
Door to door selling is always prohibited before 9am and prohibited after 6:30pm during Central Standard Time and after 7:30pm during Daylight Savings Time.
