EAST APRON TAXILANE WIDENING PROJECT
LEBANON, TN. – The City of Lebanon will begin the East Apron Taxilane Widening Project at the Lebanon Municipal Airport in September.
Plans for the project include widening the existing taxilane to provide overall safer aircraft operating areas. As one of the most recent high-traffic areas on the east side of the airfield, the work aims to alleviate the congested area for aircraft.
Increased aircraft congestion at the taxilane’s intersection along with several area development projects initiated the widening project. Upon completion, there will be adequate space for aircrafts to be sufficiently separated from each other and from other obstructions. Additionally, numerous utility improvements including, underground electrical power, water, sanitary sewer, gas, and storm sewer lines will be relocated to meet current standards.
“The East Apron Taxilane Widening Project will offer a safer, more effective and efficient area for taxiing for the current local residents, airfield operators, and small businesses,” said Heather Bay, Lebanon Municipal Airport Manager. “This project will sustain the continuous and growing demands of the City’s airfield and within the aviation community,” she said.
The budget of $444,330 is expected to be funded by various grant awards including $236,030 from the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Fund and $163,840 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics Equity Fund. A portion of the project will also be funded by a local share from the City Council and the Lebanon Municipal Airport Budget consisting of $44,430.
“I am grateful to the City Council and the governmental agencies who have supported this project as an effort to ensure Lebanon maintains safe airfield operations as it strategically embraces its continued growth,” said Mayor Bernie Ash. “We understand the importance of making an incredible first impression on anyone that wants to visit, invest, build a home, or do business in Middle Tennessee,” he said.
City officials expect the project to begin this project by mid-September and estimate the work to be completed by the end of the year.
