National Senate and House Bills Directly Affecting City Efforts
Many city government officials spend considerable time and effort working with our representatives in Congress providing a voice for the people on the local level. Much of the time, when the Washington staffs compile the federal budget, local needs are easily overlooked as the high-dollar, highly visible issues are funded. We work individually and in groups such as the Greater Nashville Regional Council as we sit down with our congressional representatives and their staffs with the issues that mean so much on the local level. We also work through the National League of Cities NLC) and the Tennessee Municipal League (TML). We work directly and as members of “Policy Committees” in the NLC on national issues and with the TML on state issues in both district and state-wide meetings. The City of Lebanon has activated a new telephone number for citizens to call for information regarding water system and natural gas system outages or service interruption updates. CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN
Mayor Don Fox and the Lebanon City Beautification Committee have recently implemented a “Clean-Up Campaign” for the City that includes two programs. One program is to present residences and businesses with “City Beautiful” recognition. This recognition is to award homes and businesses for outstanding results in maintaining their property, which includes the outside appearance of buildings and grounds, litter free, and tastefully maintained landscaping. The second program is to encourage clean up and litter pickup using a created “Litter Critter” character who will involve young and “older” in fun ways. More...
