Lebanon Police Department Crime Prevention

Some simple crime prevention ideas:
  • Remember to be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep your doors and windows locked. If someone is going to break in, make it difficult to obtain entry.
  • Lock the doors to your car and remember to roll up the windows. Even if you will only be in the store for a few minutes, criminals often look for easy targets.
  • If you are going to be out of town for a few days the LPD will be happy to place an extra patrol alert for the patrol division. This will notify patrol officers in your area to keep an extra eye on your residence while you are away.
  • If you are the victim of a crime, remember to stay calm, take mental notes, notify officers and remember evidence may still be present.
  • Your home should be well lit and free from obstructions.
  • If you are away from your home, remember to have someone pick up your mail.

Reporting Suspicious Activities

As citizens of our community, awareness and attention to details can act as a deterrent against crimes or acts of terrorism. Everyday, citizens help prevent crimes by reporting suspicious activities happening in their neighborhoods. Quick response to those reports aid in the investigation, processing and arrests of individuals involved in illegal or terrorist activities. If you have ever asked yourself "what's wrong with this picture?", "why are they so interested in that?", or "why do they have all that?", you may be witnessing behavior or activities that need to be brought to the attention of law enforcement. Apply the S.C.A.N. method when you see something or someone suspicious.
  • See - suspicious or unusual behavior.
  • Confirm - the accuracy of your observations. Write down details
  • Ask - if approached or should you approach an individual, be polite and non-confrontational.
  • Notify - your appropriate law enforcement agency.
