Traffic Division
The Lebanon Police Department currently has 3 officers assigned to the traffic unit, which is a part of the patrol division. During 2007, department officers responded to over 2,000 vehicle crashes. Officers completed over 1,800 crash reports including 1,510 property damage, 292 injuries and 3 fatalities. The department has utilized an aggressive selective traffic enforcement program to reduce traffic crashes and highway deaths. Selective traffic enforcement targets enforcement efforts in high accident occurrence areas and citizen complaint locations. The Department has utilized computer software to enhance traffic accident data and provide more accurate analysis of high accident areas. This, in turn, has provided for better enforcement.

First time offenders are allowed to attend a four-hour comprehensive defensive driving school. The defensive driving school allows first time offenders to learn valuable driving techniques. Successful completion of the school results in the citation not appearing on the driver's record. The school is provided at a fraction of the cost of the citation and is free to those first time offenders under 18. In 2007 over 1,500 first time offenders including over 200 minors were allowed to attend the defensive driving school.

During 2007 officers issued 24,993 citations, and made 351 physical arrests resulting from traffic stop situations. The department conducted several sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols in an effort to reduce alcohol related crashes. In 2007, officers arrested or cited 1,066 drivers for driving on suspended revoked or cancelled driver's licenses.
