| General Information |
The City of Lebanon is a great place to raise a family. Within the city
limits, there are multiple ball fields and parkland, a wealth of employment
opportunities, shopping at both specialty and chain stores as well as an
outlet mall, a full-service hospital, private university, hotels for friends
and guests to stay, and local as well as national restaurants. The city has
a municipal airport that serves private and corporate jets with both tiedown
and hangar spaces. There are two runways; one is 5,000 feet in length and
the other is 1,800 foot turf runway. Vanderbilt Life Flight has a helicopter
based at the Lebanon Municipal Airport. Commuter rail service between
Lebanon and Nashville is available during the week on the Music City Star.
The Music City Star also operates for special events, such as the Fourth of
July, Wilson County Fair and on Sundays during the Titans football season.
The city is a little more than 38 square miles in size, with the ability to
grow to be more than 90 square miles. Cities within Tennessee often have
what is referred to as an Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) which is how they
expand their area. Lebanon was incorporated in 1801 and serves at the county
seat for Wilson County. Being less than 28 miles from downtown Nashville,
Lebanon is part of the Nashville market region.
The headquarters for both Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Lochinvar
Water Heaters are located within the City of Lebanon. Many logistics and
distribution facilities are located within the City of Lebanon, including
Bridgestone/Firestone (tire distribution), Famous Footwear and Genesco
(shoes), Performance Food Group (food), and TNT Logistics (auto parts).
Within Lebanon, there are seventeen major industrial
manufacturers/distribution facilities with more than 100 employees each.
The City of Lebanon is served by both local and regional newspapers, radio
stations, and television stations. The Lebanon Democrat is distributed
Monday through Saturday and the Wilson Post is distributed Wednesdays and
Fridays. A special section of the Tennessean, known as Wilson AM is
distributed every Wednesday.
In terms of education, there are many possibilities. The Lebanon Special
School District (LSSD) serves elementary through junior high, while the
Wilson County School District serves elementary through high school. Several
opportunities exist for children to gain an education, elementary through
high school, from a private institution. Cumberland University, a private
university offers a variety of both baccalaureate and masters level degrees.
Lebanon has a moderate climate, with July being the hottest month and January
being the coldest month. March and May are usually the wettest months. It
is not uncommon for Lebanon to have some snow, but it never seems to last
long.
