Polar Plunge

Lebanon Polar Plunge 2013

All Proceeds go to Wilson County Special Olympics

Be Cooler than Cool.  Be Polar!

What is the Lebanon Polar Plunge?
In a nutshell, participants collect pledges from friends and family, in exchange for jumping into icy waters at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center in the middle of winter.  All proceeds collected by “plungers” will benefit Wilson County Special Olympics athletes.

The individual with the most donations receives a one year individual membership to the Jimmy Floyd Family Center.
A second place prize awarded to the individual with the next highest donation!

Participants with at least $30 in donations will receive a special plunge T-shirt.
Other prizes to be announced!

Wear your craziest costume!
A prize will be awarded for the best costume, so come prepared to plunge in your finest dress-up costume!
Locker rooms are available for changing. Coffee and hot chocolate
is available to all registrants.

When and Where is the Lebanon Polar Plunge?
The 2013 plunge will be held January 12th at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center,
511 North Castle Heights Avenue, Lebanon, TN.  Registration begins at 8am.

Costume Judging at 8:55am!

The plunge will commence at 9am!
Come Watch!!!!!!!!Non participant donations are welcome.
How do you get involved?

Participants can register on line at www.specialolympicstn.org. You can get your friends to sponsor you on line  through First Giving at www.firstgiving.com/sotn. You can also participate by helping to sponsor the event with cash donations or prizes.  Contact Cindy Baker at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center 453-4545 for sponsor information.    Paper registration and donation forms can be picked up at the front desk of the  JFFC.

SPECIAL OLYMPIC REGIONAL SWIM MEET !
The Special Olympic Regional Swim Competition commences immediately after the plunge.  Please stay and watch these committed athletes as they go for the gold in the indoor pool!  For other Special Olympics competition see www.specialolympicstn.org.

Swim Leagues

Jimmy Floyd Family Center: Swim Leagues

The Jimmy Floyd Family Center offers this eight week swim league as a recreational sport for children ages 7-13. Although the league is competitive, and the swimmers compete against other swimmers, the rules are not as strict as those that regulate USA swimming. To participate, the swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle or front crawl and 25 yards backstroke and to be eligible to swim on the league. We are happy you chose the Jimmy Floyd Family Center's Learn-to-Swim program for your child. Comfort and confidence in and around the water is important for all ages. Our classes are taught through a progression of skills whether your child is an infant, toddler, preschooler, adolescent, or teen. Adult classes are highly recommended for non-swimmers. We follow the American Red Cross Learn to Swim (LTS) Curriculum

 
SWIM LEVELS AND LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

LEVEL: Parent and Child Aquatics Level 1
AGE: 6-36 months
PREREQUISITES: Parent or other adult in the water must accompany child in the water.
OBJECTIVE: This class introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Children are introduced to basic skills that lay a foundation to help them learn to swim. Several water safety topics are also introduced that are directed to parents.

LEVEL: Parent and Child Aquatics Level 2
AGE: 6-36 months
PREREQUISITES: Parent or other adult in the water must accompany child in the water.
OBJECTIVE: This class builds on the skills introduced in Level 1. Participants improve on these skills and learn more advanced skills in Level 2.

LEVEL: Preschool Aquatics Level 1
AGE: 3-5 years
PREREQUISITES: None
OBJECTIVE: This class introduces the children to the most elementary aquatic skills, which they continue to build on as they progress through the Preschool Aquatics and Learn-to-Swim levels. At this first level, children start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water. All skills are performed with assistance.

LEVEL: Preschool Aquatics Level 2
AGE: 3-5 years
PREREQUISITES: None
OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this level are to build on the basic aquatic skills learned in Level 1 and to give children further success with fundamental aquatic skills preformed to a slightly more advanced degree than at Level 1. Most skills in this level are performed with assistance.

LEVEL: Preschool Aquatics Level 3
AGE: 3-5 years
PREREQUISITES: Successful Completion of the Exit Skills for Levels 1 and 2
OBJECTIVE: The objective of Level 3 are to build on the skills learned in levels 1 and 2 by providing additional guide practice of basic aquatics skills at slightly more proficient performance levels and a greater distances and times. Skills in this level are performed independently.

LEVEL: Learn-to-Swim Level 1 - Introduction to water skills
AGE: 5-8, 9-12, teens, and adults
PREREQUISITES: None.
OBJECTIVE: To learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. In Level 1, participants learn elementary aquatic skills, start developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

LEVEL: Learn-to-Swim Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
AGE: 5-8, 9-12, teens, and adults
PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of the Exit Skills for Level 1.
OBJECTIVE: To have success with fundamental skills such as learning to float without support and recover to a vertical position.

LEVEL: Learn-to-Swim Level 3 - Stroke Development
AGE: 5-8, 9-12, teens, and adults
PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of The Exit Skills for Level 2.
OBJECTIVE: To build on previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. Participants will learn to survival float, swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke as well as the fundamentals of treading water, and headfirst entries. (Note: headfirst entries may only be taught in the diving well of the outdoor pool.)

FOR LEARN TO SWIM LEVELS 4 THROUGH 6, PLEASE CALL THE NUMBER BELOW.

Please use this guide when signing your child or yourself up for swim lessons. Please remember that many individuals may need to repeat a level several times before they successfully complete all the requirements for that level.
