Projects
Following is a list of projects that have been completed recently by the Beautification Commission or are currently in the planning stages.


COMPLETED PROJECTS
  • “Welcome To Historic Downtown Lebanon, TN.” Placed at South entrance onto the Public Square.
  • “Seedling Trees” (over 4000) given free to each child in the City Elementary Schools to celebrate Arbor Day.
  • Library books donated to each elementary school: City Elementary, Private Elementary, and 2 County Elementary Schools, and the Wilson County Library encouraging children to Keep Our City Beautiful. The name of the Book is “The Day The Trash Came Out To Play”. The book was also read to some of the elementary students at the school’s “Read To Me Day”.
  • Booths set up at various locations throughout the month of April encouraging everyone to participate in the City wide “Cleanup Month” and Arbor Day. Booths were also set up throughout the year at special events with free trash bag giveaway furnished by the “Great American Cleanup” organization.


  • Don’t Be A Litter Critter Youth Cleanup Project: T-shirts, bracelets, pencils given out at various events. Youth Leadership Wilson Project at Sam Houston Elementary School (door decorating and coloring contest) was a great success and well organized and performed by the Youth Leadership team. Mayor’s Youth Council wrote and performed “Don’t Be A Litter Critter” at a Beautification Commission meeting as well as at a City Council meeting.
  • Certificates presented to members of Youth Leadership Wilson and Mayor’s Youth Council in appreciation of their dedication and hard work. Pizza party awarded to (2) classrooms which tied for winner of “door decorating” contest, and t-shirts and bracelets presented to color contest winners. The winners of the contest were also introduced at a City Council meeting and the winning coloring drawings were displayed in the lobby at City Hall.
  • On the Public Square additional flower pots were purchased. Pots were planted with greenery in the center which will stay green round and seasonal blooming flowers placed around the center piece.

    The historical “Neddy Jacobs” cabin location on the public square. The cabin was repaired. Natural springs was repaired and additional landscaping added around it. Other landscaping to enhance the original environment of the square was added, with more landscaping to be done in the fall. Rail fencing was placed around the area to separate it and bring more attention to the historical site.
  • General Hatton statue in the center of the square has plans in place to replace landscaping and sod. Estimates for replacing replica of original wrought iron fence and flag pole and flag.
  • Plant trees on South Hartman median from interstate to West Main Street
  • Landscape in the median around the “Welcome” sign on South Hartman Drive.


FUTURE PROJECTS
  • Complete the Neddy Jacobs and Gen. Hatton area on the Public Square.
  • Arbor Day Tree Project for April 2008.
  • Place new trash bins around the Public Square (blend with the era)
  • Place “Don’t Be A Litter Critter” signs around the school areas.
  • Replace cities “Keep Our City Beautiful” signs with signage sponsored by Beautification Commission to “Keep Our City Beautiful”
  • Signage on the exits of the square.
  • Crosswalk bricks or cobblestones
